Development

The Development program raises financial support for special programs and services that do not receive public funding. Fundraising activities include the Spring and Fall Campaigns, grant writing, and special events such as the annual Pettit Fall Classic Golf Tournament (in September). We welcome donations in the form of cash, auction items, memorial gifts, employer matching gifts, appreciated securities, tangible personal property, or a bequest by will.

Give a Gift That Keeps on Giving - Join Greater Lakes' Legacy Society
You can make a difference in the lives of others, today and for many tomorrows.

You are invited to participate in our Planned Giving Program. What is "planned giving"? It is committing to a plan today for a gift that will continue giving in the future. Planned gifts go into an endowment fund. The principal remains there, growing and producing revenue to be used for Greater Lakes programs and services.

Most planned gifts are simple bequests, such as including Greater Lakes in your will or as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy or retirement fund.  Here is sample language to use when making a bequest to benefit the programs of Greater Lakes Mental Healthcare:

"I give, devise and bequeath [describe the asset, such as a stated sum, the residue of the estate, or a percentage of the residue] to The Greater Lakes Mental Healthcare Endowment Fund of The Greater Tacoma Community Foundation."

If you add a bequest to Greater Lakes Mental Healthcare Endowment Fund in your will, please let us know, so we can include you in our Legacy Society and recognize your generosity. Simply email Annette Arriola: annettea@glmhc.org or Carolyn Petrich: carolynp@glmhc.org, if you would like additional information.

There are many other options, such as gifts of stock, property, or naming Greater Lakes Mental Healthcare as the beneficiary of an IRA or 401K account, life insurance policy, annuity, or trust. If you are interested in learning about the specific advantages of these options, we will be happy to arrange an individual, no-obligation appointment for you with a technical expert at the Greater Tacoma Community Foundation to help you assess which options are best for your interests and needs. If you would like to make such an appointment, please email Annette Arriola: annettea@glmhc.org or Carolyn Petrich: carolynp@glmhc.org.

Volunteer Services

French social philosopher Alexis de Tocqueville called volunteering "Habits of the Heart." He was so right. Volunteer Services is an integral part of Greater Lakes Mental Healthcare serving to supplement the daily operations of the agency.

As a Greater Lakes volunteer one has the opportunity to contribute to his or her community while gaining valuable skills and experience.

Volunteers come from many walks of life and from varied and diverse backgrounds. We are happy to include persons of all ages. Everyone has a gift to give and we at Greater Lakes are honored to explore the possibilities.

Some of the many opportunities for volunteers include:

* Administrative Assistance
* Clothing Bank Assistance
* Adopt-A-Family Holiday Program

For information about becoming a Greater Lakes Mental Healthcare Volunteer and sharing your "Habits of the Heart," please call Mary Bohn, Clinical Director, at (253) 620-5138.

Greater Lakes is proud to be a United Way Member agency.
