Greater Lakes Adult, Elder and Residential Services helps people with mental illness live successfully in the community


Child and Family Services

Child and Family Services provides services for individuals and families, a full range of counseling groups for children, and support groups for their parents. Child and Family clinical case managers can offer in-home support as well as office visits.

Child and Family Services offers support services for seriously emotionally disturbed children. These services are coordinated with other systems, particularly schools, as well as Child Protective Services, the Department of Social and Health Services, and Juvenile Justice.

In Child and Family Services the focus on encouraging mental wellness in families is achieved through individual, family and group counseling. The goal of stabilizing children by creating a healthy and supportive environment is met through several specific service approaches:

* A full range of mental health services for each family
* Intensive outpatient services
* Classes and groups
* Medication assessment
* Outreach services
* School-based services
* Mental health assessment

Paying for Child and Family Services...

Services for Medicaid and Medicaid-eligible children and families are covered through the Pierce County Regional Support Network. Funding through United Way is available for low income, unfunded children, with an emphasis on underserved populations.

Adult, Elder and Residential Services

Adult, Elder and Residential Services provides a continuum of care for adults and older adults diagnosed with a severe and persistent mental illness, including a full range of residential options. The staff of clinical case managers, community support specialists, advanced registered nurse practitioners and psychiatrists, all meet Washington State requirements for practicing medicine or counseling.

The Adult and Elder Program staff assist clients and their families through:

* Clinical case management/Counseling and Psychotherapy Services
* Housing options counseling
* Intensive outpatient services
* Assistance in building natural supports
* Vocational training and job searching
* Psycho-educational skill development
* Psychiatric evaluation and medication management
 

Elder Services offers specialized mental health treatment to clients 60 years of age or older. Clinical staff members who are geriatric mental health specialists provide individual, group, and case management services to clients.

Residential Services offers stabilization empowerment and growth in a home or apartment setting with residential counselors, case managers, community support specialists and nurses. The program's goal is to provide housing while teaching independent living skills to adults. There is a range of services to meet the needs of adults and older adults diagnosed with a severe and persistent mental illness:

* Long-term rehabilitation living facilities that are staffed 24 hours a day, where clients learn the skills for daily living.
* Intensive supported living with a special emphasis on independent living skills, while living in their own apartment.
* Supported living for clients who live independently and are supported through occasional staff supervision.

For adults seeking other residential programs, Residential Services also provides:

* HUD homeless apartments for clients who are homeless.
* Emergency Crisis Beds.
* Supervised living at one of several boarding homes that provide housing for clients who qualify for this level of care. These facilities have staff on-site 24 hours a day.

Paying for Adult, Elder and Residential Services:

Greater Lakes works closely with the Pierce County Regional Support Network to plan and coordinate all publicly-funded mental health services. We accept medical coupons, use a sliding fee scale, and coordinate with most insurance and managed care networks.

Access Center

The Access Center is the single point of entry for any service at Greater Lakes. One of our trained mental health specialists will be ready to discuss individual needs and help to select a counselor. They also determine when crisis services are needed, or when referrals to another community agency or resource are more appropriate. To schedule an appointment, call (253) 581-7020.

Greater Lakes Therapy Services

The Greater Lakes Therapy Center offers services for children, adults and families who have problems with everyday living. Solutions can be within reach for many concerns, such as:

* Anxiety, depression, or stress
* Changes and transitions in life
* Work and school problems
* Marital and family-related problems
* Grief and loss
* Phobias
* Attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder
* Behavior/conduct concerns

Greater Lakes Therapy Services helps people overcome barriers in their lives which may be interfering with their well being and happiness.

These services are funded by medical insurance, managed care contracts, Preferred Provider Organizations, Employee Assistance Contracts, and client fees.

Emergency Services

Emergency Services provides crisis response to persons who are experiencing a psychiatric emergency. 24-hour mobile crisis intervention is available by calling (253) 584-8933.
