POSITION:
Residential Counselors
*On Call Residential Counselors are needed to provide back-up coverage for all days and all shifts. Strong preference for candidates able to work a wide variety of days and shifts.
DESCRIPTION:
Assist adults in Greater Lakes’ residential mental health programs to develop their skills for recovery and wellness. Focus on helping residents attain or resume their capacity for independent living, providing hope and motivation, as residents heal and develop resiliency. Provide counseling to help residents re-establish self-identity, sense of purpose and meaning in their lives, which may include developing plans for work, school, and/or volunteering, and making community connections. Help residents develop life skills, such as cooking, cleaning, money management, social skills and knowledge of symptoms and medications. Duties also involve general upkeep of the facility and documentation of the progress of the residents.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Must have an AA Degree in a social services field, or a certificate in a social services program, plus one year experience working with severely and persistently mentally ill adults, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Requires knowledge and understanding of common mental illnesses and symptoms, entry-level mental health counseling skills, ability to conduct mental status assessments, skill in assessing and teaching independent living skills, basic understanding of psychotropic medications, excellent interpersonal communication skills, intermediate-level computer-user skills, and a valid WA State Driver’s license, good driving record, and proof of private auto insurance. Requires a positive, solution-focused, customer-service orientation and cultural sensitivity. Must be eligible for Agency Affiliated Counselor credential, must be able to complete CPR-First Aid, TB test, Food Handler’s Permit within the first week of hire.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:
Bachelor’s Degree in mental health or a social services field, plus experience working with severely and persistently mentally ill adults in a residential program. Ethnic and language diversity is a plus. Prefer ability to drive agency van (driver’s license for 7 years and a good driving record).
STARTING PAY:
On–Call Residential Counselors start at $13.24/hour. Both positions eligible for 2nd shift premium – $.75/hour and 3rd shift premium $1.15/hour.
